I'm wif stumpy on this one. In theory, he's right. Unless your frogskin is in the carburetor area behind the partition. Hard to tell exactly where its at from the pics.
Hold your hand over the one on the left while running the saw and see if air is blowing out of the hole or being sucked in. In a perfect world, it may actually be sucking extra air through it, which is helping you.
By only having holes on the right, the air HAS to flow through the fins and exit on the right.

Simple test run it for an hour, check it with an IR gun. Cool it off, block off vent and go again. My guess is the [emoji196] skin is creating enough resistance to not make much difference either way.

Hell I've run cylinders with 75 percent of the fins smashed off that were fine and ran plenty cool.

Did blood work etc, nothin everything is normal. Wth??

Good morning guys, heck I purposely put a broken finned cylinder on my "personal" 272 just to use it up, no worries, but it ain't auto tuned either. The saws of yesterday counted on a rich dense air/fuel charge to do the lions share of the cooling process. With the little monkey in today's saws constantly fiddling wif da carbeltater, hard to say if he'll get it right when it's needed most. These new breed of saws continually defy old logic at every step and turn, having a whole new set of problems where none existed before. Saw shops(around here at least) purposely sent out saws set very rich in the settings, in this regard they got it right and saved quite a few from being destroyed. All a saw shop does now is take it out of the box. Which is why I try to be open minded and watchful to details when it comes to the new saws, they just can't take as much abuse as their older cousins.

Have the something similar going on, $6000.00 later and still no diagnosis, I finally just gave up, wish I was auto tune. Lol

That sucks.
Did you get checked for Lyme disease?
Hopefully it's nothing and works itself out.
Aleve and orange juice helped my jacked up knee feel better.
