But when your trip is 500+ miles it adds up quick.

I've a truck that has 3 fuel tanks, gets 10mpg for going on 30 years, and not once did I ever snivel about filling them, as it's a truck. It's seen both coasts and most everything in between. Sorry if it gets under my skin when I see people spend huge amounts of money on a new truck then do nothing but complain about how much gas it burns. It's a truck.

i drive a truck and don't gripe about mileage just only when it needs repair. it get 15-17
won't own a car because i can't fit that good in one and plus i cant haul wood in it.
