Don't know if it's made it that far north yet but a lot of people are going with pole barn tin. I don't mean shacks either. They butyl tape the seams and screw it down in the flats. Been doing it down south going on twenty years and I've seen a lot of it here the last five or ten

Yeh a few have, still typically more expensive than shingles. Plus i got a pyramid roof with a pretty good arc over the last 100+ years...

Chit Red I put a roof on my place when I was your age. Got a bunch of buddies around and we had 30 square tore off and put back on in a weekend. But it wasn't my first rodeo and I had good help

If that's at all feasible for you it will save you a ton of money.

A little planning, a large dumpster, air nailer and a power ladder makes the job go pretty quickly.

Next time I have to put a roof on my house it will be steel. Peeling shingles off is not fun.

I said the exact same thing 2 1/2 years ago.

The way my house is I have awful ice build up. I wanted steel in the worst way to shed the ice. I got two quotes for seamless and chit myself at those prices. I then talked to every local builder in our area to get a quote on putting on basic pole barn steel. After dang near 3o calls I finally had 2 guys show up to give a quote and they said they were so busy that they would rather not take the job.

Around here roofers are so busy that they only do shingles. If I wanted pole barn steel I had to call builders, all of them have been so swamped I kept getting the "we may be able to do it next year at best" (I couldn't make another winter with my roof)

I have a pretty steep roof and a lot of valleys. I didn't feel comfortable doing it myself so I ended up biting the bullet and getting a roofer to put shingles on.

Mine should be good for another 15-20 years. When the time comes I'll likely climb my old ass up there and put the new one on.

I'm cheap and generally refuse to pay someone for something I can do myself. With a 10-12 pitch it's no joy to climb around on. I only go up there when I have to.

It's amazing what a few bags of chips and hotdogs will get you.
