Do any of you guys have or have you shot a Ruger 77/357?

That rifle really looks good to me. Over the last year or two they finally made it legal for us to hunt deer with rifles, if it's a straight walled cartridge. I'm leaning towards a 357 instead of a 44mag or 45LC so that my kids can start using it to hunt.

44 mag wouldn't be bad: a lot of the guys down here have a 77/44 with a can: shoot the heavies at sub speeds.

I'll go find the links.

If it was for only me using it I'd go with a 44mag.

I like the idea of this 357 rifle for being able to load light 38 special loads for no recoil for the kids while training.

I am not familiar with "wheel gun" cartridge's so I'd be a little weary about recoil on a 44mag.

Can't you use 44 specials in it?

Not sure, like I said. I know next to nothing about these straight walled handgun cartridge rounds.

A few years back I had the opertunity to buy a Dan Wesson 357 and the guy had 357 and 38 special for it. The 38 special had significantly lighter recoil. That's the only reason I was looking at this 77/357

I guess I'll look into 44mag too

I was looking up additional threads on the above topic when I ran across this:

I know the guy: we met at a gtg a couple years ago, and he is a good dude.

There is a gofundme account set up as well. I'm still reading thru the 500+ post of absolute sadness.

More than a few youngsters started out around here with a Ruger .44 semi auto carbine. I've shot one once or twice, recoil is about as manageable as it gets. Not .22LR light, but nothing that's gonna cause a kid to be afraid of their gun like I've seen with a few whose parents decided they should just start with a big caliber.

They aren't made anymore AFAIK, but they're fairly common on gun store shelves around here.

Correct...Ruger .44 carbine, big brother to the Ruger 10/22 in looks, hasn't been made in many years. Was a pretty good short/med range brush gun, owned a couple of them, and doing a lot of deer/hog hunting in clubs and private land along the Ocmulgee and Flint rivers through mid-Ga, could punch right through the thick stuff. I've probably killed as many deer/hogs growing up with those .44's as I did with another famous brush gun, which I still own two of...Marlin 336 CS chambered in .35 Rem. That .35 is a bad brush gun slinging either 180 or more so 200 grains at the time...

I've seen and handled one, pretty sweet. Mt first thought was to get a reamer and make it a .357 Maximum.
