I confronted him after my boy found a pile leading to his place told him to come back over sorry I missed you the last time.

Nope. I would have much more choice words for him and things would not have gone so easily for him. I don’t have kids, but you do NOT *f-word with injuring children.

That's what they are doing now but if you look at the historical budget. View attachment 151543
And see how wildly it fluctuates or go talk to a vet that was affected by agent orange and told for years sorry for your declining health while these guys keep making sure that they are taken care of.

I may be a little bias and I know not all vets take the right path but it's funny how the powers at be never let there end fluctuat.

I have talked to Vietnam vets. My uncle was one. He was being compensated for agent orange disabilities at 100% plus more. He was also a homeless junky by choice.

I agree, it took too long for RVN veterans to get Agent Orange benefits. But trying to determine what diseases are caused by AO takes years of studies. I also know when a new disease is added to the list of disabilities caused by AO, the VA reviews there file for potential back pay to 1985. The last time new disabilities were added was 2010.

I think the chart you provided is in line with the times. Veterans have been returning home from war since 2001 with disabilities and wanting to use their GI bill, so those numbers should be going up and will continue to rise as the disabilities worsen, and the war continues. We were at peace from 1975 to 2001, other than the Gul War in 1991. And the cost of living has changed since the beginning of the chart.

DC keeps raising the budget, passing new legislation, and making it easier to apply for and receive benefits. Keep in mind that not all veterans are entitled to the same compensation.

I don't like to see veterans homeless either, makes me sick too. But I don't blame D.C. Some veterans choose to be homeless, some are junkies, some are too proud to apply for benefits, and some just don't know how. D.C. has created benefits for veterans. The VA administer those benefits. It is easier than ever to get benefits and get more of them.

The VA paid out $76.52 billion in compensation benefits alone FY 2017: https://www.benefits.va.gov/REPORTS/abr/docs/FY17-Compensation.pdf

$5 billion in non-service connected pension: https://www.benefits.va.gov/REPORTS/abr/docs/FY17-Pension-Fiduciary.pdf

$12 billion in education benefits: https://www.benefits.va.gov/REPORTS/abr/docs/FY17-Education.pdf

Guaranteed $188 billion in home loans: https://www.benefits.va.gov/REPORTS/abr/docs/FY17-Loan-Guaranty.pdf

This does not include healthcare, which is free for veterans who cannot afford it. D.C. cannot keep track of every single veteran and make sure they are taken care of. D.C. and the VA are not perfect, but they do more good than they get credit for.

Nicely written Thomas
