Walked a piece of bid timber today. Supposed to be 132000mbf of timber on it. Wasn't the most fancy stuff but nice ground to work on. Wtf was the forester thinking when he was marking these as log trees. Saw a pile of chit like this marked for logs. Think I'll pass on this sale.

Most of the time the Forester marks it however the land owner wants it cut. If they're broke they usually want it cut hard.

Obviously it's not ideal but unfortunately sometimes it comes down to money.

Sometimes I think it comes down to making it look good on a bid sheet. Seriously there where enough trees marked like this that it was almost aggravating. Nothing like buying a sale for .30 or .35 cents and getting paid. 27cents delivered to the mill. That little *s-word is worth more for pulp than logs.

Guess it depends on the Forester. Guys I know wouldn't intentionally mark it like that because they know if it's cut properly they can sell timber from it again in another 10-15 years.
