I used to get sores on my mouth from eating too much salty cabbage while shredding and pounding. Also ate cabbage cores by the dozen. We never raised turnips but I found years later that turnips taste very similar to cabbage cores.Nothing better than taking the rock off the top of the crock and eating it right from there by the handfuls.
