Good Evening Simon
Hey Brian..Day working out ok i hope.
Iv had a right oily mess of a overfilled mower to sort today. Had 2 1/2 times the amount it should have had in it.."wont run and it smoked " said the owner "till it stopped " ... "Was told it would be the diaphragm in the carb by a mower shop" says him to me. Errrrr "Nope" says I .."its a float carb" :D..needles to say he is bringing his kit to me to service from now on !

Had to do today what I've never done before. I put my duck dog down for the count.
I got him at 8 weeks. He ran under the tire of our Tahoe at 10 weeks and injured the cartilage in his right hip, so for 13.5 years he walked with a limp (seemingly pain-free). He's been panting excessively for 3 years now, but today he started gasping for air. Had to take him to the vet.

He went to Manitoba first with me when he was 6 months old, and went every year since. His first retrieve was for another guy in our hunting group in Manitoba- he took off after it with a stiff tailwind in 1' of water and mud, and by the time he got to the duck, it was 500 yds away. It was all downhill with him after that.

So here's to the most bull-headed, hard headed, most pukingest, most duck fetchingest machine that I've ever owned or ever will own. It's time to move on to the land of calm, cattail-free, open-water retrieves in doggy heaven. Love you buddy

Real sorry to hear about your little Buddy ...its the sad situation that we will mostly outlive our dogs but im sure you had good times .
Doing right by them is always the best thing you can do for them i feel and the kindest way to repay the companionship and loyalty they give us.

Our chocolate lab just turned 7 and i dread the day when it comes. More for my kids (6 and 4) than myself.

Sorry Kevin, they're like one of your kids.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. He was a great, gentle dog. My nieces and nephews would bring their month old babies over to visit and he would sniff and lick them once and then put his head down. As they got older he would always play with them...always gentle. His younger brother is a German shorthair and of all breeds to have to teach to be gentle, he did just that. Even the shorthair would let kids climb all over him. They were both great family dogs
