I never liked how it pointed. Seemed my digits never fit right an the heel made it point high, so this was my etempt to make it better. There's lots you can find on the inner Web and it's only money right......

I figure that if I screw it up I'll just go to my money tree I planted out back and see if it's producing anything.

I told you to get all pullets. But nooooooo.

Ross, you know I'm Dutch.....

Buying all pullets or all cockrals cost more than straight run:D

Actually, we have some customers who like big birds and some who like smaller. By doing straight run chicks the pullets end up smaller and the cockrals end up larger so everyone ends up happy.

Whachu gon cook em on?

In the summer everything goes on the smoker.
In the winter Lisa cooks them in the oven.

We generally don't eat to much of our chicken because once people realize I got some butchered they'll end up buying them from me. We usually sell around 150-200 a year.

The hatchery I use cuts a break on all pullet orders and charges more for all cockerel orders.

I've tried multiple hatcheries last year after the flu went through the herds. My local hatcheries wouldn't alliw anymore direct pick up snd webt to shipping only. Their chicks are expensive and their shipping is expensive so I tried other options.

Out of all the hatcheries that I've tried, none of them survive like the ones I can get locally and the ones I get locally usually finish out at least a week earlier than anything else I've tried.

I know that all the chicks sold at TSC that are sold in Michigan are from the hatchery 5 miles from me. I thought that they said at one point that they also supplied the Nirthern Indiana and Illinois TSC stores.

I'm thinking I should have had these butchered before I left on vacation......

Last time the things got that big before murdering them, they were just as good as the last little ones.

Just take a little longer on the smoker.

One time I figured out that one bird was good for 8 individual meals, and the base for 2 more.

Roast 'em, slice up one breast for sammidges.
Dark meat gets peeled off for soups, and pulled chicken sammidges.
The carcass goes in the stock pot, and will make 3 qt's of stock.
The other breast gets sliced thick , stacked on a pile of mashed Taters and gravy for two.

They were nice and fat, and smoked up better than the leaner birds that are the most common.

Can't wait!!!

The Blue crop finally decided to start ripening up, and build sugars.
A good 40% are in the 12-14mm range as they turn, but it's going to be an extended harvest.

Sleep is overrated anyhow.:loko2:

(Sweaty I-Potato lens photos suck...I know.)
