Ok, so jerking off aside
My youngest of 3 graduates this year. For the older 2, we did a pig roast. People knew it ahead of time, and came to eat. We had upwards of 150-200 people come to eat. My pig roaster is easy. Prepping the pig, not so much. I'm thinking about doing pork roasts on the smoker. I can fit probably 8 roasts in my electric smoker. Set it and forget it. I can also use my wood smoker if I needed more. Or I could throw 15 roasts in the pig roaster. Thoughts?
Whatever you do, don't put roasts inside the chest cavity of a whole hog that's on a roaster......
You'll make that mistake once and never again
We used to do a lot of hog roasts for groups. The first year we did it we were contacted by a local guy who plays pro football. His whole team was coming into town for a house warming party. The group was larger than what a whole hog would feed.
We talked to some other caterers who roast hogs and asked what they do for extra meat. They said that they put pork roasts on the cooker with the pig.
So dad got the idea to put the roasts inside the chest cavity thinking the fat dripping down on them would be pretty tasty.
Yea that didn't work out to well for us.... We had a whole pig that wasn't fully cooked along with the roasts, oops....
We thought we were going to get our asses kicked by a group of 300 pound football players when we cut the pig open. Here were guys that make more in a season than most of us will make in our lifetime. They are used to being waited on hand and foot.... We figured they'd be pissed.
The next thing we knew a few of the guys were hauling out grills to us. They said lets turn this into grilled pork. So we started carving off slabs of meat and threw them on the grill. A bunch of the guys were giving us a hand.
I don't watch if follow any sports, I always figured that everyone in those games were total asses and out of touch with reality. That wasn't the truth with these guys. They were some of the nicest guys we've ever met. We couldn't have picked a better group to be schooled on with that mistake.
