So, apparently it snows in Alaska in mid December

Convinced my dad to get out of the house today and help me on the landing. He removed the snow while I marked all the logs. Then we both bucked them up. Always appreciate my dad coming over to help - he enjoys it a lot once he gets out there.

We each have right at an acre but now that more houses are getting built it does seem to be closing in

I am just too old to start over again, buy acreage, plow however much driveway, etc

The boss can't do much what with her fake hip and fake knees and having both shoulders replaced in the coming year

It was a balancing act between remote and private or quick access to medical, etc should the need arise

I did the exact same thing my dad did when he retired from the Air Force

He located where there was ready access to a military hospital because of all my mom's ailments

Then she outlived him

Having a landing that out in the open is so foreign to me after all the years of Pacific Northwest logging I am used to

That actually looks pretty nice. My lot is about the same size here on the edge of town. We would love to be more isolated and living on our own homestead acreage, but honestly it can be a real blessing having neighbors around too. We all get along great, and have helped each other through times of need.

I can imagine. This landing is about 60 yards from the woodlot. We land everything out in the open, where the self loading trucks can easily get to them. With fields all surrounded by woods, this is a great setup.

That perfect. Very similar to here. Our small town of 400 people is 30 and 45 minutes from bigger cities, where all the big stores are. There’s no cop or stop light in this little town. Our lot is on the NW edge - over looking agricultural land.

My grandfather and uncle stopped in today to say hi to my dad and I. He grandpa asked us if we’ve considered getting a fleet lisence yet, , as we have so many vehicles now. I charged up the batteries in the F250 7.3 diesel and added some howes to the fuel and got that started and running well. Now charging the battery for the GMC Sierra with 340K miles. Also got the Polaris Indy XLT parts sled running for the first time in 2 years. We keep it as a parts sled for the nicer special model but might get it operable again as it just needs a new clutch. Also used my FarminKarman Echo 490 to clear our snowmobile trail to the lake a bit more.

Evening slackers. No luck today for my son but he is dead set on staying until shooting time is over. We are in the truck staying warm. I knew the girl and I wouldn’t have much luck. Her version of hunting is a little more relaxed than his . I did have a good nap or two! Hope you all have a good rest of the weekend.
