FE is 428/410/390/360/352/332
351M/400M/429/460 are the big block very few of the older 429/460 had manual but the 3/4 ton in ?80 started in with 4 spd trannys (Similar geared tran as the 240/300 six I looked for them 'cus 3rd gear wasn't worn out)
240/300/after '64 289/302/351W were the small block
272/292/312 are Y block Ford is balanced external so don't use a 6 cyl Flywheel on a V-8. (You'll figure out How I know).
Fe had truck sizes as well 272/292/332/361/391 ETC.
Save you some grief and verify before You spend time and money.
I was having brain farts from smelling cowshit all day. 460s with manual transmissions are pretty rare. The 390 flywheel works....or so I've been told, but the bell housing is different.

The zf5 works well with the 460. Can be had in OBS Ford trucks f250 and f350. There is one in my 95' F250

It's a rough life being a Stihl fanboyView attachment 408043
Why I think Stihl is better

1. Stihl has made chainsaws for almost 100 years
2. Stihl saws are simpler altogether e.g., bar and chain selection, service, parts, and once you have worked on one Stihl chainsaw, you have worked on a lot of them.
3. Availability ( most saw shops in my area carry mostly Stihl )
4. Parts Availability
5. Many units are made in the USA
6. Stihl makes almost everything. Vacuums, hand tools, brush cutters and clearing saws, lawn mowers, and damn near everything in between.

Here is a Stihl Wera rebrand that I have:

I also have Stihl's Amish USG aka the FG2 that I had to import from Europe:

Do you have anything to say except for what tools you think are better?

Seriously?

The zf5 works well with the 460. Can be had in OBS Ford trucks f250 and f350. There is one in my 95' F250
The 460 I have is too old for a new type flywheel. Balance is different. My truck has a mechanical clutch linkage too, and the zf5 is hydraulic.

External balance can be made internal by having weight added to the crank and then using neutral balanced damper and flexplate/flywheel.

I’d stick with the trans you have now honestly. If I break another ZF5 I’m going automatic lol.

lol i did good today

If they are so good
Why is there a Chevy distributor on that ford motor ????
It doesn't bother me, I'm not a fan boy of anything in particular. Except maybe my Lund boat. I have Honda, VW and Ford here now. Small block chevys were mass produced and parts were cheap for almost anything you wanted for it. For a long time the square bodies were the trucks to have because parts were cheaper to buy than about any other brand. Now so many of them are gone that the prices are going up, for both the trucks and the old small blocks. Got a 305 chevy motor with about 6000 miles on it from a truck of mine that some drugged up idiot pulled out from a red light in front of me. I had just rebuilt the motor and transmission in that truck and was getting ready to start on the body. It sits in a crate, but I think it is time for it to find a new home.

Reverse gear? Only played with one ZF5 and it lost reverse, my late 99 had the ZF6. Got a 5r110w from a 04 F250 I'm parting that will need a new home as well.
