I know what you're saying. My statement was more of a blanket statement for my needs & uses, and what tools aren't even available in the M12 line, no router, no screwgun, no sawall in the M12 line. There's only one tool in the M12 line I would use regularly if I owned it. A 1/4" hex impact driver.

I compared the M12 vs M18 impact drivers side by side when I was fixing to buy one. The M12 impact driver is almost 1/2" longer in overall length, compared to a M18 impact driver. Power specs M12 is 1,500 in/lbs, M18 is 2,000 in/lbs. I figured what's the point of having a M12 impact driver, that's longer in overall length, so the head won't fit in as tight of spaces, and it has less power. So I went with the M18 impact driver. Plus the M12 just felt weird and unbalanced in my hands.

I'm sure most of the M12 tools are great tools. There is just none of them I would use regularly if I had them. Yes the chargers are set up for both platforms, which is nice for guys who have both.
you should see how small the new 1/4 impact is

I've compared the 3453 (which is the new one) to the 2853 & 2953, in hand at stores.

If you hold them up next to each other, head to head, the 3453 is almost 1/2 longer in over all length (front to back). Diameter or side to side the 3453 is smaller thou. It's odd to me they made the 3453 longer in the head, then it's big brother. Yeah the M18 is a bigger tool in girth, but it's shorter in the head length wise.

Sometimes putting in backing (that carpenters forgot) having a 1/2" shorter tool makes a difference. The head size AKA length, squeezing in a tight space, is where it's at for me & my needs.

I almost bought a 3650-21 last weekend at the depot, they had it on close out, for $69.

Impact, one 2.0 battery, charger, and tool bag. $69 is a heck of a deal.

But I have two M18 impact drivers I'm waiting on to die before I buy more stuff. I'm not a hoarder.
