Explain to me how NOT following that mantra, has worked for you. It is easy to criticize others that are happy, than it is to admit where you failed. I assume you and your wife got along before you were married. Something happened that caused the dissolution of the relationship. A happy woman doesn't cheat or have affairs. So something caused her to look for something outside the marriage. I am not picking, but at least be honest with yourself. Introspection is something we all avoid. Nobody wants to admit their flaws, or that they may have been responsible for events that take place. Impossible for different outcomes if we don't address our problems.

i didnt fail
it was her *pretty boy that let her daughter control her by saying she couldnt see her grandson if she didnt leave me
her daughter is also the one who set her up with the guy she lived with after leaving me
the daughter would invite him to dinner and such
but that doesnt matter
also i have never been one to wear fancy clothes
you wont see me in anything but t shirts and jeans and she tried changing me and that didnt happen

i hadnt talked or texted with her since 2014 and she texted me about a month ago
said her daughter hasnt talked to her in 2 years or let her see her grandkids
not sure what happened but i can still laugh about that

i just didnt kiss ass and support the stepdaughters wants and needs paying her bills

While I am a happily married, I see no difference in women's behavior. They are all just simple and will follow a man who exhibits confidence. All generations think the following generations are messed up. Nostalgia is a thing.

While I definitely agree with your last point, I think women (and men too) are a lot more immature than they were 50, 60 years ago.

Younger women want to think they are strong and independent and don't need men because it is what they have been told since they were kids. Eventually the smart ones realize maybe it would be nice to have a husband who can fix things and a family instead of being a lonely old maid who calls her dad every time her check engine light comes on. That process is called maturing and it's taking a lot longer than it used to. People typically used to get married in their early 20s, nowadays that's not common.

It's not all women either. I think most young men are a lot more immature and self-centered than young men of 50-60 years ago.

I think a lot of it is the fruits of the participation trophy world that my generation was raised in. Of course, dating apps, body positivity, feminism, and of course the LGBTLMNOPQ movement have only helped to further inflate the ego of anyone who is willing to buy into that BS.

I didn't get that impression with you Joe. Seems someone raised you correctly. My kids were also raised correctly. While it may not be the norm nowadays, it does happen, and they are out there. Can't paint any group with a broad brush. May have to be more selective, but that is always good advice.
