Thinking about a Woodland Mills bandsaw. Thoughts?

I see you already ordered one, but my only suggestion would be to go with a mill able to handle wider logs. You can always cut the small diameter stuff, but when you get a big log and you can’t cut it, you’re going to be pissed or frustrated.. Other than that, I have heard great things about Woodland Mills tech support after the sale, as compared to other brands.
Good on you for broadening his horizons and teaching skills that will stick with him for life.

The reason I'm thinking about buying a mill is really more about Bubba's future than mine. There isn't any good paying jobs around here unless you are either highly educated, or willing to drive a couple of hours a day back and forth to work. If he has a few different skill sets, and the tools to do the work, I believe he will be ok once he's on his own.

If he enjoys it he could make a good living doing stock saw rebuilds
I made bank all spring and summer just doing simple repairs and rebuilds
I had to turn down a lot of work
Especially a *s-wordload of goddamn Husqvarna 235/240/435/440s and poulan *B-S.....
I might get a very similar mill off my friend he used it once on a barn build and has set for 10 years
Has a 24ft bed I have a 65ft barn space for it
But I'd like to get a tractor or small escavator to move logs it's a all manual load mill.

Good morning all, I like the idea of a mill as well. I just always talk myself out of one. I would use it, just not frequently, so it would sit.

There is work for those wanting to. I agree with Brent, @Dream , field service pays pretty well, even more if you want to travel. I am home every night, whereas Brent leaves for a week or more. Everyone is hiring, and most companies aren't getting the young people to back fill those of us aging out. So there are options. I also like the entrepreneurial spirit he has. There is also the cash angle, which doesn't exist if you work for someone else.

I thought about a bigger one, but on the bigger stuff I figured we could split it with a chainsaw if we wanted to mill it up.
