So....my 19 year old grandson being able to rebuild an engine, or a motorcycle by himself isn't "normal" these days?
Not in my experience dealing with kids anymore
This boy here I've known since he was 13
He's a union electrician now but can't work on anything mechanical at all
He hit a deer last year and instead of replacing his trucks grill because he didn't know how
he instead bought a car
Good worker just not much basic skills.

The reason I'm thinking about buying a mill is really more about Bubba's future than mine. There isn't any good paying jobs around here unless you are either highly educated, or willing to drive a couple of hours a day back and forth to work. If he has a few different skill sets, and the tools to do the work, I believe he will be ok once he's on his own.

My BIL has the HM126. Says he has no complaints about it so far.

you would want to double or triple the bed length to do 20 or 24 foot long boards
alot of the custom lumber stuff for building is going to be long
my uncle has a oscar 36 by hudson and we can cut 25 foot stuff
you will want it under roof as well to protect the mill and better when using it when its raining
ive ran it a good bit and im sure there are other mods that can be done

I just bought it. Got a bed extension to do up to 16'11" for now.

You can use your own lumber to build a house in TN right?

Not necessarily the best way, but service tech jobs like mine pay pretty good. Especially if you find a company that pays your travel time and expenses.
Drawback is sometimes being away from home and family. Not a good thing for a guy with a young family.
He would do well if he has the motivation to work and decent skills.

Evening girlfriends. Currently in Michigan for the weekend for the Nascar Cup race tomorrow. Praying for no rain. Spent today checking out some of Detroit. I've already been to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, but I went to the Piquette Avenue Plant tour. Definitely worth seeing. Also drove past the adjacent Fisher Body plant, the old GM World HQ, as well as Ford World HQ. Check out the 4WD Ford Model T they have.
