How'd it burn right around the mill?

Was it soaked in water or fire retarder?
Nope nothing just luck I guess. Could of used more of it tho. It’s all just a wasteland now, even the big pines got heat stressed and died. All the needles are orange and falling off. I cared about the trees there than anybody could of imagined, that’s why I lived there actually. Now you can see right through the land from the road which is pretty far away

Any chance they might come back?

It wasn’t a good return to my property guys most everything is gone the whole 160 acres is scorched not a live tree left standing. I’ve been having a hard go today but can’t keep myself together. The mill in the woods has somehow not been hit but that’s about it I’m just left with the house, mill and my camaro I got out of there. It was way worse than I could of ever imagined. To make matters worse there’s tons of traffic out here now of people who don’t live here driving real slow trying to poke their head up my driveway and others with loss, nothing horrible about that but it just makes things worse View attachment 380825View attachment 380826View attachment 380827
Sorry @JugHead27 , I know things look bad right now. But all the irreplaceable things are still there. Everything else the insurance is going to have to cough up to replace. Don't give them any slack, not like they ever gave you a break on your premiums. Sometimes they lose, they can't win all the time. You will be alright, family and keepsakes are safe. Again, sorry for the grief you are having.

Adam is right, that Forest may have burned, but will begin suckering almost immediately. Sunlight is going to hit places it hasn't hit in quite a while. Going to get thick in there before the tallest shade out the floor again. Wildlife will be back with a vengeance. Think of it as getting to explore new ground. My place was mowed ten years ago except for perimeter and some old growth hardwoods. I left areas to wild, now they are forest. Enjoy the rebirth of the land. Just trying to put some positive in your life right now.

I know the type. Good on you for turning down his round-about invitation to be fraudulent.

Get this, last year him and his son went turkey hunting, they walked around for days, never got a turkey....

So this spring he bought 4 baby turkeys at the local ranch store, he's raising them with his chickens in the pen.

This fall he's going to turn them loose out in the woods on his property, so his son hunt them.

I'm not sure that's what I would consider hunting? I doubt his son will learn anything from it.

I know what you mean.
I dont know what id do if something like that happened here.
It was an overgrown mess when we bought it. Susan kept asking me why I wanted this place.
We slowly started to make it into what it is now. Together. Shes been right by my side the whole time. Rolling logs onto the fire, dragging brush, painting, etc.
We have the loader and other machines to help out now, but rebuilding after that kind of devastation would be hard on our old arses.
Good news is you have PLENTY of wood and a working sawmill. Really hate it about the tractor, but theres plenty more like it to be bought, and the loader doesnt look like it got too crispy. Maybe new hoses and seals, and it'll be good to mount on a new(to you) tractor.
I know you werent looking for open land, but it'll grow right up after this, and you will get some privacy back.
It looks bad right now, but wait til next spring. It'll be green all over.

I know, you think of all thats lost.
True, there was a lot.
Try to think about what you still have.
You got your health and a piece of dirt.
Dirt doesnt change. You can move it around, but it doesnt go away. You can change what is growing in it or sitting on it, but its still the same dirt.
Even when some dumbarse or mother nature intervene, its still the same dirt.
Yours to put whatever on or in you desire.

Lol last summer it was 12-15 12 ounce cups
Before surgery I was about 6
For a little bit after surgery I was only drinking 1 or 2
I went from 206 pounds down to 190 pounds
I’m back up to 194
Haven’t been this light since I got sick in 2016
I tell people I run on coffee and hate. Got my usual coffee stops on the route where there is always time to get a cup and I generally hit about 7 cups a day during the week. Slow it down to just two or three on the weekend. Hard for me to drop weight without stopping eating. Got my fat butt down to 200-205 range for some time, but let it come back up with stress eating and dealing with work during the covid crap. Get home late and just have to sit down to try to relax to make the stupid go away from dealing with people. The problem with that is I had to let some things around the farm slip and now I am back trying to clean things back up again.
