My local Stihl dealer said he's heard talk of a 700i coming out to replace the 661. In about 2 years. That sounds about right for Stihl's typical forever releases.

I'll be too old to use a saw that size by the time it makes it to market. But I bet it'll be a screamer.
Maybe but kinda doubt it since the 661 isn’t very long into its lifecycle. Costs a lot of money to develop and test a whole new saw series unless they do a 362/400 type saw. Take the 661 punch it out to 95cc cylinder and add the fuel injection that way the case and crank design of the 661 isn’t completely gone.

So is the 500i actually thirsty or does it just have a smaller fuel tank than what would come on most +80cc saw? I haven't heard anyone call the 400i thirsty. Just keep getting the impression that injected saws burn more fuel when it should be more efficient over a carb'd model especially when hearing reports that the mtronics like running on the lean side.

I was stunned the first tank I went through. It emptied SO much quicker than my 046. Hasn't changed, still drinks a ton.

Love the throttle response and the power, but you better have a fresh gallon mixed up and ready.

462/500i, 661/700i. Seems like maybe that sort of thing going on? I'm guessing the 400 probably would've been a 400i if it didn't add so much to the cost. Fuel injection would've moved it out of its pricing lane. There's less room to squeeze ~$200 in a lower cost saw.

My dealer has been pretty reliable with his intel in the past, we'll have to wait and see on the 700i...

I don't have enough time on my 500 to compare, but even if it uses more fuel then my MS460, I'd still pick up the 500 first. It's just stupid smooth
We took our stuff to the machine shop today. Bubba's 4 bolt main block is cracked.

Well that sucks.

Sounds like you were searching in the wrong browser. My guess is Alabama hot pocket and Cleveland steamer are in your search history as well...
