I swear to fck academia people are absolutely fcking retarded. My sister is a middle school teacher and I absolutely lose my mind at some of the dumb sh*t that comes out of her mouth. It blows my mind that we are related. I've got 5 professors, 4 are adjuncts, so they have real jobs outside of teaching and one is a full time professor. Guess which one is the most ignorant dipshít I've ever met in my life?

Remind your daughter that those who can't do teach.

Anyways, how are you folks?
I dunno about there but here part of the problem is many teachers have never been anywhere but school.

Kindergarten, Primary, intermediate, high school, university or teachers college then, fůck me, a teaching job in a (drum roll) school.

Obviously the year terms will be different, but I bet the process is the same.

No life experience, no real life perspective.

This is a huuuugggee part of the problem. I came home once from my job at this fence supply place where I was working. In the summertime that job was usually around 60-ish hours a week. It was a really dirty and physically exhausting job and it was all outside, rain or shine, cold or hot. Anyways I came home covered in dirt, soaked in sweat from the heat and my sister had the balls to tell me how hard she had been working to "prep for her classes".

Like, are you f*cking kidding me? Oh yeah, super hard to laminate some posters and buy a box of kleenex and some extra pencils. Especially when you work 35 hours a week, 9 months out of the year inside in the air conditioning. Gimme a break.

Good morning fellow philosophers. I too think an educator needs to have been proficient in the field in which they profess. The mentor/apprenticeship is really the only way. We all know grade school is not about education, it is to teach children that the state is their master, ring bell, move over here, ring bell, move over there. Step out of line and get a mark on your record. Like prison I think, (have never been to jail, so not sure). So nothing surprises me any more. I like to here stories like Ed's, where there is still some rebellion and pushback against the BS.

Anyway, stay safe and happy Friday. Oh, and it is raining.

In some ways I agree, but I also disagree.
Because someone doesn't get physically dirty or have a physical job doesn't mean they can't work hard.
My wife may be at a desk but she's managing a price book for something like 200 convenience stores along the east coast/Florida
Always needing to deal with vendors, codes, price tables and shìt I don't understand. Her job isn't slacking.

Kind of like my work. 3 ladies in the office. 2 useless ones and 1 that knows everything about the place, how it works and keeps the place going.

Morning / Evening All. So over this cold weather and wind. Power utility installed street lights in the town site to the south of us, a new ugly glow in the sky…

We don't have street lights here, but there are 3 cell towers with their flashing tower light around me. I like the dark, but my wife has solar motion lights in the back yard, and in the chicken area. I call it Yankee stadium. They will be gone soon, as I sabotage them one by one. I think the space station can see when I take the dogs out at night.

Sounds like our wives could send messages to each other via solar light signal..

You have the same problem I see. (Just looked way north). A couple around the chickens I can see, for racoons and possums, as they are afraid of the light. I need to be able to be stealthy if someone in our in the farm up to no good. Not get lit up like a Christmas tree if I go to investigate. We are rural, so no 911.

Morning folks. Gonna be a good weekend. I`m taking my youngest daughter (15) to her travel volleyball tourney. For some reason I don`t think she`s really excited about it. I even took my time to show her my cheers, dance moves, and costumes I plan to wear during her games.

Oh, I'm not at all trying insinuating that you can't work hard from an office. Lots of people do and those jobs are important. I'm simply trying to make the point that my sister's idea of hard work is asinine. As a teacher who never worked a non-teaching job, physical or otherwise, she has zero concept of what constitutes hard work. She works 9 months a year for 35 hours a week and somehow thinks she deserves more vacation days.
