When I was in school we had rifle teams and marksmen competitions. Can you imagine handing a loaded gun to some of the morons that you see in a high school setting these days? It's not that guns have changed....but people sure have.
Our school at least allows archery in gym class which I'd guess is rare these days. Also last year the senior FFA class butchered chickens (at school)...definitely not happening many other places. My son works on rebuilding the neighbor kids Farmall M every day. There's still some quality schooling/teachers around but a lot of them suck even in our district.

Oh, I'm not at all trying insinuating that you can't work hard from an office. Lots of people do and those jobs are important. I'm simply trying to make the point that my sister's idea of hard work is asinine. As a teacher who never worked a non-teaching job, physical or otherwise, she has zero concept of what constitutes hard work. She works 9 months a year for 35 hours a week and somehow thinks she deserves more vacation days.
Oh herding cats or kids can be exhausting alright. Ay @Mastermind. 😉

In 1985 I took a Winchester model 12 12 gauge on the bus to high school then on the bus to the arch a moore vocational tech school
and refinished it in woodshop
others brought various rifle and shotguns that needed blued or stock work.
not a word was said it was so common.
and that's the year our woodshop teacher mr. gore was shot and killed by a student he was sleeping with
she shot him like 12+ times with a 9mm
she never got much jail time if any
I never knew why she did it.

the funny thing is when arch a moore our governor was convicted of accepting bribes from coal companies they changed the name to southern Jackson vocational school.
