Are they just pets or you get goat milk or steak out of it
They are just pets. Wife wanted goats, so we compromised, we got goats. Tried milking, realized goat milk is gross just like cow milk, but worse. They all have and know their names. They give me stuff to do, and they create jobs for me that I wouldn't have otherwise. Truth be told, I am kinda attached to them. 5hey even have their own website as we don't Facebook. So he friends can keep up with the goats. Lol

I understand your position entirely, the chickens here I have become attached to, and greet them to let ‘em out early every morning. Good pets that are easy keeping and earn their keep with eggs

I tell myself the goats earn their keep, but they don't. I still have to mow their pasture, and make and put up hay. Chickens are awesome, easiest livestock their is. Guinea hen eggs are amazing, better than duck eggs. Guinea hens are a pain in the azz. The boys are jerks to the girls, and the chickens. We had a rooster that kept them in line, but he started to attack the wife. So he became soup.

These girls are pretty much pets. The only one with a name is the brown one, Lucy. The others are just "chicken". I raised them from chicks. They are easy to care for and I get more eggs than I can use in the summer. Chicken is cheap meat and I have no desire to process birds. A fully cooked rotisserie chicken costs $4 at Sam's Club. Plus they are kinda funny.

Wife puts a spoonful of cayenne pepper powder in the feed in winter and they produce just as much as in the summer
Love having fresh eggs [emoji106]

It’s entertaining watching chicken shenanigans and them foraging. Beats watching TV . Healthy innocent entertainment lol. I like tossing them leftovers and seeing them go nuts over them

I'll have to try that, they usually don't lay much in the winter.

They are definitely fun to have around. Low maintenance too. I had a rooster for a while, and while he was hilarious, he was also a PITA. Hens are much easier.
