At one time the diesel nozzles wouldn't fit in a gas vehicles filler neck and if you tried pumping diesel into the tank, you were going to wear diesel and make a mess. Did this change?

Yes.
Lots of diesel pumps with the small nozzles now.
And I've seen them with black, yellow and green handles too.

Least we not forget the small nozzled DEF fluid dispensers. I know a couple jack nuts that pumped DEF into their diesel tanks. That's a fugg up for realzzzLOL!

Looks like the snow is almost to me - I’m smack-dab in the middle between Rochester and Winona.

My boss is supposed to be driving home from Plymouth tomorrow, I wish she wasn't so macho that she thinks that drive is safe to do alone in the winter. I'd be surprised if she even has a snow brush in her Lexus never mind a shovel or other winter gear.

The diesel nozzles do not fit into a gasoline cars tank. Took the woman quite a while to fill that tank with diesel. Also, all are standard green for diesel, except for BP/Amoco, who have black for diesel and green for gasoline, (backwards)! There is still the size difference, you can easily put gas in a diesel vehicle however.

Of course reading is your best bet!

Then they have the wrong nozzle on them. Car diesel nozzles are the size of the leaded nozzles of the past, whereas the gasoline nozzles are smaller, the unleaded size. The hose threads are the same 3/4" npt so a moron can install the incorrect nozzle. But they are different sizes. Then there is the color codes that are not standard across brands. English reading comprehension is mucho importante!

Hate to say it Larry, but I've filled my diesel with diesel from black, green and yellow handled pumps from here to Florida and here to Montana.

The local Kwik trip I think is black E10 gasoline, red no ethanol premium, yellow E85 and green diesel at the "car pumps" and black handles in the 3 truck diesel lanes.
The diesel pumps that are mixed into the car lanes also have the same size nozzle as gas.
If there's an industry standard, I'd believe you know it, but locally they don't follow it.

I need to get some no ethanol tomorrow, I'll try to get pics of the pumps so I'm not going by memory!

Yup, there are many that do whatever to get by, even when it is wrong. Nozzle size is supposed to be the determining factor for preventing a contamination fill-up. I guess they assume anyone buying a diesel is smarter than your average gasoline consumer. My neighbors daughter, crazy smart, filled her Jetta with diesel. She even complained that the nozzle wouldn't even fit in the tank. She said it took forever to fill up. Lol.

Life is an IQ test, some just get a lot of the questions wrong. Keeps you and I in business. Thank God for dummies!

Edit: Ed, quick Trip seems correct!

I couldn’t even tell you what color the diesel handles are - my local full service station pumps it for me :beer-toast1:
Fitting right in here on this forum @Loony661. That will get you a slacker status badge my man. LOL

I’ve lived in this town over 10 years now, and I have certainly come to appreciate it! Our town is about 480 people and we don’t have any stop lights, no local police, a post office, and the Oil Co that delivers fuel and oil to the farmers and they only have 2 diesel pumps now that they full service from (60/40 blend and #2 in the winter, both #2 in the summer). They used to also full service gasoline, but the underground tanks went bad and they didn’t want to replace them.

The diesel pump nozzle on my transfer tank in my pickup is blue. So take that.
Those usually do not have auto shutoff. Makes it usable on crank pumps for filling farm equipment. Lower standards for that stuff.

Sounds like heaven, but colder.
