The septic field freezing or the pipe going to the septic tank freezing? We install septics in Massachusetts and never heard of such a thing... I can see the pipe going to freezing if there isn't enough pitch and every flush a layer freezes and builds builds builds. I was under the impression with the fields that we do, the bacteria keep it from freezing because it gives off a tiny bit of heat... Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe a different type of field?
I'm not 100% sure but I'll do my best to explain how I understand our system work. Everything from the house goes to a concrete tank underground, the liquids in the tank get pumped to the field. We have a sewage pump truck come and suck the solids out of the tank, don't ask me how many times a year that needs doing as I am still trying to figure that out.
