The septic field freezing or the pipe going to the septic tank freezing? We install septics in Massachusetts and never heard of such a thing... I can see the pipe going to freezing if there isn't enough pitch and every flush a layer freezes and builds builds builds. I was under the impression with the fields that we do, the bacteria keep it from freezing because it gives off a tiny bit of heat... Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe a different type of field?

I'm not 100% sure but I'll do my best to explain how I understand our system work. Everything from the house goes to a concrete tank underground, the liquids in the tank get pumped to the field. We have a sewage pump truck come and suck the solids out of the tank, don't ask me how many times a year that needs doing as I am still trying to figure that out.

Gotcha, sound like maybe a pressure dose system or something similar.... The lines would have a little bit of water in them, or the line from the pump to the field would stay "charged" Here in Massachusetts they recommend having your tank pumped every 3 years. 1500 gallon septic tank. But I wouldn't go by what we do here for your system....

Morena non-reticulated sanitation ponderers.

Mrs says: "Can you take me to the airport on Tuesday?"
Mrs means: "Get up 1 1/2 hrs early, drop me off, make kids lunches, get kids on respective buses, go to your own job late, leave early and collect them. On the 2nd and 3rd day repeat, but run them both all over town for sports training, even though it's a short week and you still have to do your work rounds compressed...."

Me says: "Sure".

Coz I wasn't really listening obviously. :)

Keep safe ay.

I think a lot of that has to do with the size of the system. My house is 2800 sq ft and it is just the wife and I. We also don't have to worry about the ground freezing. In the 10 years we have owned it, we have yet to need a pump out. My understanding, which may be wrong, is the bacteria breaks down the solids, and the liquids go out to the leech fields where they disappear. If 20 people lived here, it would need pumping. Am I understanding it correctly?

Our township has an ordinance requiring pumping and inspection every 3 years.

Just curious as to why they require pumping? If the system works correctly. I am going to do some research.

Just researched a little. While they recommend inspection and cleaning, they also talk about symptoms of a system in need of pumping. I am not having any of those symptoms. I may call and have it pumped just so I know whether I need to have it done periodically. Would rather know than be surprised. Glad we had this s-wordty conversation! Lol
