This guy just pulled in to get gas. New Blazer spewing A/Fr out the bottom. LOL!!
And third thing is. I sure hope your shop foreman has the foresight to have that lift checked and certified before he sends someone else under there working. As it's a lifting device I assume it goes through annual inspections/certifications right?? I've never been around that style does it have to achieve a certain height before locks activate? I'm assuming knee height they should of deployed.

I'm the only one who uses it.
Due to design, the entire thing needs to be pulled out of the ground to repair the line.
It's not a common fault.

It went up about knee high, there was a pop and the hoist went down..
A line ruptured. And the locks failed..
Glad it happened before I was under it.
And just previous to that, I had a F150 on it.

No likes. In fact, as someone who's spent a fair bit of time under hoists, I'm upping that to Fùck that's Terrifying.

How do the locks jam? A dog and pawl should be totally reliable?

After removing the cover, it appears the lock actuator is broken off the bracket it mounts to.
Right next to the hydraulic leak. So, not sure if both are related?

Tough one today!

Tell me about it, didn’t solve it yesterday

They are inspected annually.

Due to design, the entire thing needs to be pulled out of the ground to repair the line.
It's not a common fault.

We inspect those occasionally.
Best you can do is confirm that the hydraulics are in decent order and not leaking or making excessive noise.
Then you verify that the safety cables that run the locks are in good workimg order and physical condition.
Next step is making sure the structure is properly installed and sitting relatively plumb and square.
Check for any obvious damage and cracked welds.(we arent required to NDT, just a visual).
Any systems that use a wire rope as part of the lifting apparatus have the wire rope inspected visually and manually(we run a greased rag over the entire length, and any broken wires will snag the rag).
Its a fairly thorough process if done correctly, but ultimately it comes down to the operator that uses it every day over a once a year poke and prod from someone whos never even seen it before.
Takeaway here is that you dont trust anyone else to tell you youre safe. Its up to you.

Spent the last 12 years working for BF USA, and I can tell you for certain that theres A LOT of having to look up someones arse.
Mostly due to the fact that they dont make it a habit of covering it well....
