Compared to Europe, we have cheap fuel prices even now. But it still hurts. Fuel ain't the thing I'm really worried about though.

Fertilizer.

Russia and Belarus produce 35% of the world's supply of potash. And they will not be selling it for the foreseeable future. Also, China decided in October to stop exporting all fertilizer. As fertilizer prices increase, and supply dwindles, food prices will spike. Folks on fixed income will be hit hard by this. They can drive less....but they gotta eat.

As for the Keystone pipeline....it was never intended to supply oil for domestic use. It would have supplied tar sand crude to oil refineries on the gulf coast to be shipped out of the country.

Yeah....this all sucks. But it's not the fault of our leaders, past or present....Republican or Democrat. The world is fairly *f-worded at the moment.

I bought some corral panels a few days ago. 149.95 each. A year ago they were 89.00 each. 5 years ago they were 40.00. Fertilizer is 3 times higher, fuel too. Cattle prices have yet to increase enough to compensate.

Companies are raking in record profits, yet they are still raising prices. That's just greed. Now they are raising prices to add even more pain when they shouldn't be profiteering at a time like this.

When I was a young man everything was made in America. So why the push to move manufacturing out of country? Greed.

Now that we have existed for few generations without people having to actually work to eat.....bringing manufacturing back would be a disaster. Can you imagine these lazy mfers breaking a sweat? Who is gonna man the presses? They all work at Starbucks and McDonalds.

People are slowly being phased out of manufacturing now. The problem is, the vast majority of engineers coming out of school are responsible for creating the automation that is to replace them. They are not up to it. Not at all. So I guess maybe it's not a problem. Sure keeps my job fixing all of it secure though!

My brother is a senior vice president for a big manufacturing company. He tells me that robotics will wind up taking over the jobs in manufacturing to a much greater effect than anything else in America. Why? Because our work force is spoiled *f-wording rotten, and can't be relied on.

Well the pipeline was for importing more, but there are other levers that could be pulled. There's enough energy in the ground that gas could cost a quarter a gallon. Now I don't expect that, but it could be.

But more $$ fuel gets, the more feasible the alternatives become. The people that make these decisions can afford $60/gal gas.

We were told that upcoming generations would do computer work, that was the future, then computers were put in the following year after I graduated. They said sorry you missed it. Then the shop classes were taken out in following years and the trade classes.
There's plenty of blame to go around. The parents bought into this line of crapola they were spoon fed. When any normal person could tell you computers are good at a great many things, they can't build or repair a darn thing.
I still remember laughing at the first of the new generation leaving college and selling their computer technology skills to old school money that had no idea other than to grab onto the new, dumped billions into it and watched it get pissed away by these jet setting whiz kids that had nothing close to viable to sell.
