The internals of that engine look as if it's never been serviced or had the wrong API rating of oil. From top to bottom heavy deposits and coking of oil. It's fuggin trashed.
Cmon now you can't blame Ford on that one.

Those Ecotech's get some power out of small displacements 4 sure. You can correct me if I spelled that wrong LOL!

According to the General, anytime one of their pistons cracks between the ring lands its from using non dexos oil.
Maybe, I dunno..
The rest of the internals on this are actually pretty clean.

Ok, My bad. I thought this was the one with the top end opened up. I and thinking I got Ecoboost and ecotech mixed up. I'll give myself a GFM and head home. Still alot of oil coke-ing on that piston. I believe the General for sure on wrong oil or too long intervals.

Ecoboost is furd
Ecotech is chebby.

The oil change intervals are too long right from the manufacturer. This vehicle is 7,500 miles. No way I will go even close to that. Hell, the *s-wordbiscuits I work with still put the window stickers at 5,000 miles on the older (2010ish) trucks. I put those at 3,000..

I think the one you were thinking of was a 2.4 with bent valves.
