On outboard motors messing with time can be a big no no I learned the hard way a long time ago. On those I'd go more for area. The ports being bridged can be manipulated more for flow without the common ring issues associated with a wide port area. A big plus with old Rudes and they are fun to grind on imo. Considering diving into a 225 V6 here for more grunt some day. The V4 motors just respond nicely to mods. My inline fours liked to pitch con rods and break pistons over 5,500 rpms. Two clylinders not so much.

You never ported at 40 merc I’m assuming? They can handle huge port timing changes but 59ci lets them get away with more than the yammers and tohatsu 3 cylinder loopers that’s you mostly widen ports on to get some torque on.
