A guy I do some business with bought a 55fter in New York last year. Had is sailed up through the St Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes to Thunder Bay and then disassembled and trucked the last 900kms to Gimli. Apparently that last stretch cost more then the first legs of sailing did.

He’s now looking for an 80ft to take from Chicago down to the Gulf of Mexico and then sail around the Caribbean instead of having a condo down there as he and his wife have been unable to agree on which island.

It’s not the fastest 272 I’ve done but I tried to make it the most usable torque I could for a longer bar saw if I wanted to.

Riveted hulls are for little dinghy's here. That thing of mine is 6mm welded. Chines and keel capped additionally.

It’s not the fastest 272 I’ve done but I tried to make it the most usable torque I could for a longer bar saw if I wanted to.

Fast saws for short bars are touchy and won't live long most times on long bars. I'll take a mild woods port any day with other additions to get more reliable power on the mill. Getting around to porting some jugs and trying to be gentle on the rings by limiting my port width. Gaining maximum area without chewing on parts is my goal with these saws. Bigger carbs, V-stacks and giant air filters will certainly help. Looking for added case volume only on one saw. Trying to keep them targeted for under 10K in the cut. That will keep durations in check. If it idols I'm happy. Two speeds... idol and wot.

Pretty much what I go for. I don’t like a lazy saw. I keep the intake duration as low as I can and make it still pull. Raise exhaust only if needed. Don’t hog out lower transfers. Shorten blowdown just enough to make it come alive on the spot. If I hit the trigger and it hesitates I might as well throw it away because felling a tree and stopping a saw in the cut will let you know where torque is needed. Just the way I like to build em.

I got one with the lower transfers hooogged out. Took enough meat away to consider not removing more material because I've already weakened the casting. Have to gain some because the bottom will be tighter but running a stock bore. No grinding in the case just on the jug. The case will be stock.

Sure there are exceptions. Not all of them respond the same mod for mod either. That’s the fun of it lol

Ah, see, that goes into a different category of craft Adam.
Thats what rednecks and Cajuns refer to as "extra bouncability" class watercraft.
For example, the RS Mayfloat is a + standard bouncability craft. It certainly will absorb appreciable low speed impacts, but its rated higher, due to the fact that it's not worth fixing if it doesn't, and no-one is going to be that put out if it sinks.(as long as the beer cooler can be salvaged with minimal effort).
Very nice rig you have though.
