I do check those to be equal when I cut them down with a filler gauge under the gauge checker that’s .025 so I’ll add .005-.010 at a time until the saw bites enough.

Having dull files or ones with a poor cut angle is the worst. Sharpens one side of the chain and leaves the other dull.
A good Stihl file will fix a rocked chain and then trash it.
I do real well with files in the field. If you hit something just change the loop. The grinder will fix it later. Save the file for touch ups or converting to square. It's pretty easy to sharpen your chain round but profile a stone type wheel to more of a square filed shape. Hit that with a rectangle or other type of triangle file and you get square in two touch ups. I did it many times in the field. Never said I was good at it but good enough to make it cut faster.

I’m interested in learning what you’re talking about. Im sure you have to set the Grinder to some specific angles to get that profile? I’ll have to find a junk chain and try this. Thanks!

The wind is up......and the maple tree I dug too close to has me worried. At times I can see the ground move a little around it when the wind gets to pushing on it. If it makes it through this without crushing my shop, I'll have it on the ground before the wind gets up again.

and cheap files suck even new

I only use save edge files best I have found so far last the longest
