I think I’m past that stage. I’m able to make one look factory but it’s when I start trying other things to make them faster I go the other wayOne of those roller guides is a good learning aid. It will help you learn how high the file needs to be. After awhile, you'll be able to do it without the guide.
listen to himLol I want to learn without a guide lol thanks
for softer woods or faster you want more hook than factory but it is a fine line between fast and junkI think I’m past that stage. I’m able to make one look factory but it’s when I start trying other things to make them faster I go the other way
https://youtube.com/shorts/NBfbooWXZNs?feature=share This is one I hand filed with using the depth guages and keeping factory profile on a basic mods saw. Cuts ok. But all the little tricks people have to make them go faster is what I was trying to figure out and I just go backwardsOne of those roller guides is a good learning aid. Ok that makes senselisten to him
The key is consistency
I’m going to make note of that thank youfor softer woods or faster you want more hook than factory but it is a fine line between fast and junk
another hintOk that makes sense
Meaning don’t force it?another hint
Don’t gorilla the file
exactlyMeaning don’t force it?
2 in 1 file guides sucks on new chain and sucks on very worn down cutters. It will sharpen half a tooth or less up to around a third gone just perfect. This is the fine line Dallas speaks of. Too much hook makes a weak cutter on hollow filed round or ground chain. Square suffers much less from these issues. One big reason square severs the fibers easier than round it is a true chisel point cutter. It also has less drag on the side plate by design.for softer woods or faster you want more hook than factory but it is a fine line between fast and junk
Ok maybe why files haven’t lasted long for me lolexactly
i got pretty good at hand filing when i was getting better after being sick
id stand and file chains for a couple hours at a time
