Cross files suck. One in ten will cut a Stihl chain.
Bought many types and most suck.
Husky
Stihl
Save edge
Old machine shop stuff from made in the USA is good.

You guys fill in the rest of the good brands for him.

Thanks Kenny. I be paying attention still
Having dull files or ones with a poor cut angle is the worst. Sharpens one side of the chain and leaves the other dull.
A good Stihl file will fix a rocked chain and then trash it.
I do real well with files in the field. If you hit something just change the loop. The grinder will fix it later. Save the file for touch ups or converting to square. It's pretty easy to sharpen your chain round but profile a stone type wheel to more of a square filed shape. Hit that with a rectangle or other type of triangle file and you get square in two touch ups. I did it many times in the field. Never said I was good at it but good enough to make it cut faster.

Well I'm no miracle worker but I think I can see a way to gain you 30 minutes sleeping time right there...
40 mins warm-up? You gotta do your jazzercise first?

Morning Dudes! Busy weekend for me. Back in the old tree saddle. Took down this scaly bark eucalyptus. The fella that owns this property had to leave for Athens for medical reasons so we agreed to help him out this weekend.

@markds2 collected and cleaned a 365 for me that was pretty much unrecognisable from Pinus radiata sap Dan. Used Stihl varioclean I believe. Worked wonders.

Thanks for the tip. I've never experienced so many chain stalls in all my cutting days. This particular tree tried to gum up every saw I own. Lol. I found that piss revving after a cut helped.
