Yea that’s some cool old *s-word! Your guess is better than mine lol. I was thinking it was an auxiliary air backup mechanism looking for a loss in pressure. Looks similar to what we have for that only ours has a diaphragm and a spring that supply holds against.

Afternoon. Just met my neighbor at the cabin. He owns a sawmill. He offered for me to save him some work by unloading the "junk" he hauled home that was too dry to chip. One of the tasks for the evening was working up some firewood. Slacking to commence.
