Hey Brent, I've been looking at this channel since you posted it. He's actually only about 3/4hr north east of where I am. Typical NZer - likes making stuff out of nothing.

The generators on those old Military ones can clog up, especially as they were designed to run on anything that was available to hand, it gets especially bad if they are run on standard fuel - the additives in the fuel deposit in the generator. Might pay to dismantle the generator and soak it in a solution of citric acid and hot water, it cleans them up beautifully.

Cleaned it. Broke the pricker off in it. Finally got it out. Now its burning too rich. Cleaned mud daubers out of air tube. Better, but still too lean. Flame won't stay to the mantle. Wondering if the gas jet got a little oversized, and now it needs more air. It has a second air tube I can open. May look at that.
