Not So Pro 3

Build the 400 then put a gear vendors overdrive unit behind it. Bam. 6 speed auto. You could even put a low gear kit in it to lower 1st and 2nd by 20% I think. It leaves 3rd the same. Then you can run a taller gear in the rear, still have it out the hole and be able to cruise without screaming.

Th400 is strong but it eats alot of horsepower. Th350 is a good compromise. 4l60e and 700r can be built very strong reasonably. One of the last I built was about $7-800 in parts. I plowed snow with it behind a 454ho for a year. Spun the mains and yanked the motor dropped a hot small block in it's place and plowed for six more years before I cooked it and lost 3&4. Drove it one winter like that and fixed it the next. The truck rotted out and I have the engine tucked away for when my current plow blows. The trans is still going. It's now in my 20 something kid brother in laws truck. God only knows if he's even checked the fluid

I'd have kept it but the new plow rig is a nv4500. Probably wont be breaking that with a smallblock.


All good ideas though. Lets spend more of Randy's monies

Only lost 3 and 4 trans could probably just need a new input drum clutch job as probably c2 is smoked. Sounds like you built a strong one.

My pops scored two of those for 800 each. One is for the Chevelle and other is for the 35' pu.
Both are still collecting dust I'd bet.
Good choice solid to 800hp. A used late model six speed wouldn't brake the bank used but the electronics to run it might plus the harness.
after running both in many forms 700 vs the 60e. I'd take the 60e if you are going to link the motor and trans on electronics.

If your going to use the 700 you need a Corvette servo, the big ten vane pump and something else I'm forgetting. Old school I would recommend the TV cable setup. Better adjustments with no electrical problems ever. No electronics stand alone trans with gear drive speedo cable but that tail can be updated or just run a magnetic pickup on the drive shaft.

The GM 6L80/90/95 are not cheap.
Looking at over $2,000 right now used.

In first and second c1 is applied and c2 is disengaged so I’m thinking it just drug c2 until the clutches gave. Then no 3 and 4. Hard to get them shimmed just right so that doesn’t happen.

Running from job to job high high fluid temp. Cooks them fast. The plow blocks so much air it's ridiculous. If you don't have a auxiliary cooler don't count on it lasting long. Mine cooked because I wasn't paying attention to the temp. Totally my fault.

It just burned the clutch pack. Didn't do a full teardown to fix it. Was much more limber when I did it. Had it out fixed and back in on a Sunday afternoon with enough time to have movie night with my then gf now wife. I'd be hurting for a week if I did that crap working on jackstands anymore.

Plow can block air,but I can run all day with my 4l80 never getting over 150 degrees in cold weather. Most of the time barely 100 degrees.
Start plowing, forward, reverse, spin the tires, then it heats up. I will see roughly 180-200 then.
