The business next door actually owns the building, and they put in a "repair ticket" which take days to process. I wasn't having that BS so I called the local sewer authority who came out within an hour and at least verified it wasn't their main backing up. The lateral is collapsed and the guys from the sewer authority were able to express the urgency of the situation to the business next door.

Even still our dumb MFer of a district manager wanted me to keep the store open. It reeks like sewage inside and out and we can't use our bathrooms. No sinks, no toilets. I told him no, it's a health safety issue and I'm not doing it. So I closed up and put a sign on the door.

Good for you making that decision. That situation sounds terrible.
