Funny/sad story about that

We got a new teacher who was a Yooper in the elementary school where I worked in the bush

This was in a village where the residents were predominantly Central Yupik Eskimos

Within the first week of the school year the teacher was discussing a lesson with the class and referred to himself as a Yooper

The Eskimo kids had never heard that term before and they thought he was making fun of them, or being derogatory, or something like that and by the end of the day there were several dozen very angry and very vocal native parents in the school demanding the teacher be fired for being culturally insensitive

No amount of explanation from the principal, who was a Lakota Sioux from the old BIA school days, would convince them that it was all a big misunderstanding

The teacher was on a plane out of the village the next day
Watza Yooper?

I’m considering using some narrow gauge rail road track as front and or rear bumpers for my truck….
It sounds good, until one considers that if when struck by something and the bumper doesn't "give" some, the frame rails will be bent or knocked out of square or both, sometimes even braking transfer cases from the front driveshaft.

I know a few sicilians from the east coast, and a couple of italians from chicago, that's what they call me.
Just giving you a hard time. No need to get the Sicilians involved. You fell for one of the classic blunders!

I didn’t think of that, good to know, thanks.

my dad was born in marquette, my grandma was from ironwood. still have a fair bir of family up that way, spend as much time as i can there.
I’m from Sault St. Marie and still have a lot of family there. My Mom is from Houghton and my Dad is from Copper Harbor.

They settled in the Soo when my Dad started working there and then he got transferred down state so we moved down here when i started middle school.

I have family in and around Cheboygan too.

Now that my parents are both retired, they’re having a house built on their 60 acres and moving back up there.
