Attempting to navigate the state website to get new plates for a car that I purchased, paid the tax and title fees on months ago will spin you in circles. It will only let you proceed if you input the purchase price, applicable tax and title transfer fee.
I am pretty certain they got some of the GM I.T. people to create it. It runs about as smoothly.,
Ours is just as convoluted and they are also assuming everyone has access to a computer and a credit card, which isn't always the case up here

To penalize you for walking in to renew your tags is abuse, pure and simple

I don't even pay attention to what the DMV in a Box charges over and above the state fee, if it means I don't have to deal with the actual DMV idiots it is a bargain

Yeah, you don't make appointments for the Wisconsin DMV unless you are going for a road test for your license.
And I am unsure how far away any donuts are from there.
There is a Target next door if that matters.
They started doing appointments during Covid and kept it going
If you don’t have a appointment you wait about a half hour until your number is called
Quickest to renew license plate was 5 minutes and longest was 15 minutes to get new drivers license
Not many people live around there but it’s a regional dmv so it can’t be shut down
We are lucky, we have several "DMV in a Box" partner businesses where you can go and take care of 99% of your DMV business and since they aren't on a state "I get paid regardless" time clock, and are actually in business to make money, they get you in, get you out, and get the next guy in line to make even more money

State DMV is a joke and actually charges you a surcharge if you go in person to take care of business you could have done on line at the state DMV website

*a-holes
They have the online stuff here too and it’s more of a pain than showing up

The good news is I was able to get a Z (exempt forever) tag for the 4Runner because of it's age and because we no longer live in the Anchorage Borough, and I was able to get a P (exempt forever) tag for the smaller Lexus because the boss is 100% disabled

All told it took $104 to get all that done but that's $250 per vehicle every 2 years I won't ever have to pay again

We get our plates at the county clerks office. They have a drive through. Takes a couple of minutes at most. Freedom from DMV. Drivers license renewals does need to be handled in hell though.

We can renew our DL on line twice I believe before you have to go in person and take the vision test

I know I have to go in when mine expires in 2 years

I will schedule my eye exam with my optometrist just before I go to the DMV and get a letter from him if I am still able to drive without glasses because the vision machines at DMV are horribly inaccurate and they will accept a current letter from a medical provider regarding your vision

I had to go to eye dr because until I was close to a speed limit sign I couldn’t see anything but blur

Our DMV which we call Secretary of State here have a kiosk that you can renew plates, get titles, etc, on. Our Meijer stores have them too. The SoS offices started to have appointments during covid and kept itp. You can renew DL online every other renewal (4 year renewal here).

I must have missed it, what’s the schooling for? How’s the knee?
Knee is still doing its thing. Some days is really bothers me others it’s fine. Surgery in three weeks again. School was to renew one of my certifications. Written test and 4 actual device tests. One of which is rigged to fail and you need to know what failed. I use this knowledge about 3 times a year but have held the license since 2004.

I can’t remember if ours are 4 years or 6

I will be 71 when I renew mine and I’m curious to see if they are the same length of time when you get up to that age

Or is that profiling or something offensive
