I’m looking into getting something like this. I have flail mower but this style turns small trees and bushes into mulch…anybody got any experience with this type?

Most flail mowers can accept knives or hammers. That just looks like the chained the guard up and installed hammers. Keep in mind too that they are chopping up soft evergreens too so the machine looks more impressive. Check with your unit and see if it can accept hammers.

A flail can do quite a bit, but only up to about 2". As long as you have hammers instead of Y blades. Would not want to be pushing backwards all day though. Might be better off renting a skid steer with forestry mulched if that is an option. Looking forward is easier on you. Basically a flail will chop up anything you would drive over with your tractor. I pause at 1-1/2" stuff. My flail has Y blades, which will chew up softer stuff up to 1-1/2".

I’m wanting carbides on this one instead of hammers. The guard is hydraulically operated to allow you to back over brush piles and saplings. There is a guy locally that has one and it’s quite nifty. My flail mower serves me fine on my small tractor but I’m wanting to step up to 80-100HP forest and orchard style tractor. Something like a John Deere 5100G or a New Holland TN95FA. A good low hour used tractor that also fits in and around my olive 🫒 trees.

Good morning, happy Sunday fellas. Had a nice little fire in the backyard last night until the rain arrived. Got the skidder running yesterday right before supper - feels good to have that going. Have a few more things to repair, then it can hit the woods.

Morning Sunday slackers. Been on the patio since about 6 am. Put a pork butt on the Pitboss last night and added a chuck roast this morning at 6. Haven’t done the smoker Sunday slack in a long while. Unfortunately I have things to do today so it won’t be a complete slack day. Back to the grind tomorrow. Hopefully we get some real work as I’m tired of doing service and having to bill customers.

I'm not a stoner. That stuff puts me in a coma, knocks me out clean out, for 12-14 hours.

I ain't touched any in probably 20 years. It was more fun when it was illegal. Legalizing it took most of the thrill out of it.
