You can, but then after you get their wipers they go and say "oh I also need a price on front brakes and rotors for the same vehicle" and you have to ask them all over again because you put it in wrong.

At that point, you would just be asking them the first time, since you would have omitted asking them initially. Which wouldn’t be terrible.

Yeah but then I have to clear out the first incorrect vehicle to keep the system from saving it to the customer's phone number, which is a PITA... I prefer to just ask for it and explain that I know it doesn't matter, but the computer won't search without it.

So far the majority of people don't even know what engine their car has, so sometimes it's a guess anyway.

It is, but it's an inventory management system. It's not smart enough to know what details are relevant to what jobs so it just asks for everything. If you get someone who's not an idiot, it'll be a minor inconvenience. If you get someone like the retard they hired right before me, it'll be the most awkward line of questioning you've ever experienced in your life.
