Just another red oak we found today. They are blown down everywhere.
In a church yard around the corner there was a large red oak that lost a main limb so they decided to remove the tree. The stump is 4' across.
Now they have a huge hole in the sky.

Oak roots dont go deep here.
No bedrock either.
They just spread out wide, not deep.
Pines go a lot deeper.

What's your soil like?
It's very sandy in my area, seems the roots typically go down as much as out here. Anything that uproots leaves a big crater.

Not sure.
Not saying Oaks dont have deep roots, what I'm saying is, Pines seem to have deeper roots here (if it was rocky soil how would that be possible?).
I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I have a 60ft Pine & 80 ft Oak that grew 5ft apart.
Tornado came thru (4yrs ago) & the 80ft Oak blew over (pics of root ball tomorrow).
The Pine is still standing.
