That's cuz it doesn't have enough compression to pop back through the carb.
Plus, quadrabog and stuff.
The 305 in the SB has dished pistons that are flopping around in the bore.....compression on that turd is nearly non existent. Plus.....Edelbrock 1406 not Q-jet.
should have it timed better then
your ford is barely able to make enough spark to ignite the plugs
The distributor is pretty loose. It might have backed up enough.......

But.....no working choke. I figure it lean popped.

theres your problem a *s-wordty edelbrock made for a 4 cylinder *s-wordbox not a v8

original carbs on ford sucked so they was changed often on them

people dont like the quadra jets but they was alot better carbs
I like the Q-Jet.....and the Carter AFB, which is an Edelbrock 1406. I also like the Holley carbs. The trick is that a fella needs to be a little bit smarter than the carb. LOL
