The first winter we were out in the bush in Bethel Alaska we had a storm come off the Bering sea, actual temps dropped in the 40 below range, and the airport recorded wind chills of 104 below zero

They changed the formula for computing wind chill a few years later but in anybody's book, that was COLD

When I worked at the school there the kids had to play outside until it hit either 20 below actual or wind chill and they didn't cancel school until it hit 70 below windchill

But it's a "dry cold" 🤣
That’s good. Makes the kids tough. We used to go to school until it was well below zero as well. Only 1 time did we get school cancelled for cold - i was in elementary school. And since we didn’t have school, we all went outside and played in the snow anyway.

These days if it snows 2 inches it seems like they call it off 🤦🏻‍♂️

Since the whole "distance learning" thing came about with Covid it seems way more likely that they will cancel school up here

Over the last 2 weeks Anchorage set all time records for snow in November and I think they went to school a total of 3-4 days out of 10

The Anchorage bowl actually got over 1/2 of the total average annual snowfall in 1 week with 3 separate storms

The issue with closing schools is the trickle down effect, keeping parents from work, reduced school funding when the kids aren't physically in their seats, etc

We spent a lot of days last winter watching our granddaughter on closure days and a few this year as well

Even city offices were closed in Anchorage off and on over the last 2 weeks because the roads were impassable

I guess I better watch my language from now on, I wasn't aware there were children in the room...

2014 would have been my 41st class reunion if there were such a thing

My Dad's would of went to his 63rd class reunion last summer, but there was not enough of the class left to have one.

This year was my 50th and I couldn't stand 99% of the idiots then and didn't give it a thought until my wife relayed something about it off Facebook

Meh

They should have watched some of those videos first. You'd have ended up a Charity Figurehead for the Criminally Boring.

So you watched the hill drive video also, so did I, wonder who the other (3rd) viewer was?

I found this video more exciting than the hill drive video..... LOL

Cast iron is the only way. I rarely use anything else.
This is one of my favorites. No markings at all. Has a heat ring. No notches, so not unmarked Lodge.
Just has a good finish.
Used to be somebodys cornbread pan.
Can still see the marks where they cut the cornbread in the pan.
If you have a well seasoned skillet cornbread will just fall out when you turn it over, so not sure why they did that.

He's only been to a few, I know he went to his 50th, cause his good friend Richard still has his 1961 fuelie vette, his parents got him for graduation. So they both slicked their hair back, and drove the old vette into the city where they went to school. About 20 miles on northwest side of Chicago.

I think the Alzheimers/dementia spectrum is absolutely the worst thing that can happen to loved ones and my prayers go out to you

Hang in there

Where in AZ you located?

We lived in Pinetop-Lakeside in 92-94 as well as at Luke AFB for a summer when the boss did a TDY there
I move to Pinetop Lakeside in 95. Renee's family settled the area in the late 1800's. Her madain name is Jackson. And her husband Terry is a Penrod. I'm down in Safford now. Thank you!
