I’m with ya there...I’ve got two sets of ol’ school ramps. But you can only ramp one end...then comes a floor jack, and jack stands if it’s gonna be a time consuming, day to day deal from underneath. Or jack it up and put a second set of ramps underneath.
ive crawled under a lot of trucks I never used anything as long as my chest and stomach could get past
But I’ve had one of those little bastard jacks let go before

I’ve seen ‘em fail before as well...hence the jack stand theory...as a backup plan. Damn good friend of mine who was a boiler mechanic, same shop as me, worked in the Boiler Room at a prominent hospital in Macon, Ga. He was *f-wording around with a damn CJ-7 Jeep one day in his driveway...floor jack failed, killed him. He was one helluva boiler mechanic, whether fire-tube or water-tube boilers. Murray or PVI boilers...and knew all the logic controls, etc, to run ‘em on gas or diesel. He was damn good with the boilers...30-ton Trane Chillers as well in the Central Energy Plant in the bowels of the hospital.

My point being...make damn sure you’re safe and precautions are taken being underneath a vehicle. Simple to have a backup plan in place. It only takes a few min’s.

I’ve got two 3-ton sets of jack stands from different mfgr’s. Had both sets for prob 25-30 yrs...ain’t never had no problems out of either set.
That’s why you haven’t had problems because they were made in 25 or 30 years ago. Ya know, not made by Fong or OneHung-Lo
