How do you house them? I knew a guy who had em and they would fly up in trees and sleep all over the place.
You have to keep them contained in a coop for like 4 months, then they will return to it at night. I think we do 6 months. They go to bed with a little coaxing at dusk. Unless the females are broody. Then good luck. Then they will sit on them to hatch, and the nest is where you won't find it. Unless you trick them into laying where you want them to lay. Which we do with golf balls painted egg color. They make test nests, where they dig out a hole in some weeds, we find these and drop in a couple of golf balls.
Then what happens next is speculation on my part. I think a different female discovers the golf balls and thinks this is the new communal nest and lays an egg, then tells all the other females where they are currently laying, so they all use the nest. We steal the eggs and replace them with 6 golf balls. They will use that nest for about three weeks, then a timer goes off, and someone, or two, share hatching duties. By this time, they have another nest with golf balls as a backup, and the remaining females will use that one. We kick the broody ones off as soon as they plan to stay the night on the balls, break up the nest, and they go back to their coop, *b-wording the whole time.
We play this game until the end of October when they shut it down for the year. It does take some time to get to where we are as guineas are a pain in the ass! I do love the eggs. Most people have never had them as they are elusive and well hidden. We used to search for hours, stalking them around noon to see where they go. It would take us up to a week to find the nests. Now we fool them and life is much easier. They will not use a nesting box. They also love edge of Forrest as it is thick enough to hide in, while giving them some escape route.
Tree nesting guineas are owl food, as guineas are night blind just like chickens.
I know, tl.dr
