I still don't really consider him a thief.
I absolutely believe that he volunteered to port that saw, messed up the cylinder, then bailed out rather than face the music.
Once he was called out, he made every excuse in the world rather than just own up to the truth.
A thief? Not really. An egomaniac with an inferiority complex? Absolutely.
Sadly, at this point, he can't redeem himself. And is becoming a person who is considered a thief because of his dishonesty about this situation, and others.
I can see that point of view. It's not like he broke into someone's house.
But when he dishonestly kept someone else's property, that's stealing. And that makes him a thief in my eyes.
