I can’t remember if I told you guys, but the rear driveshaft in my skidder decided to commit suicide a few days ago:View attachment 370364

I let the clutch out and heard “bang!” and that was it. Shaft is at FleetPride being rebuilt - said it will take a week or so to get the yokes straight from Spicer...
It's good they're using Spicer and not some off brand garbage!!

What do you think caused it? Wasn't dry of grease, or worn out.
The best was when Tom (Thomas1) made the fake blsnelling account. I thought Brad was gonna have a aneurysm. He was threatening to sue him and call the FBI and everything but Brad had no idea who it was. 🤣

There were some good times on AS for sure.
Holy hell. That was one hell of an evening for sure. LOL
Ask for a refund @JoeDirt , make them squirm. They allowed you to sign up for a program, they owe you a refund. As well as credits earned.
Agreed.

I asked the experts at FleetPride and the driveshaft specialist (who appeared to be in his upper 50’s, lower 60’s for age) looked at it and told me that the U-Joint itself wore out and allowed too much movement which bound it and broke the yoke. He demonstrated by showing me how sloppy the caps were on the joint... Now I have kept up with greasing this machine since I bought it in October, but I have no idea what its service history was before me.

Makes sense I suppose. I drag raced for years....and u-joint failures can be catastrophic. So when I see something like this, I feel the need to know exactly why.

I hear ya cluckin big chicken. All I did was let out the clutch, she snapped, I pressed the clutch back in as quickly as possible, and it not only broke the slip shaft on the driveshaft, but the yoke on the output shaft of the transfer case as well. They figure by the time I get both yokes, and 2 new u-joints, I’ll be around $800.00

And this was a very LOW speed situation! Lol

Not to Dally. So please refrain from use of such words...he's a little thin-skinned when it comes to these groups and still has their posters all over his bedroom walls. He never had Farrah Fawcett or Lynda Carter posters, just these bands and Tears For Fears of course.

Driveshaft hoops have saved many a asses from having serious injuries. I've seen them do their job a couple times. Also seen what happens when one isn't used. A guys brand new procharged 2010 Sierra comes to mind. The factory driveshaft let go at 70mph. The underneath of that truck looked like he hit an ied. Dude was lucky it broke at the pinion and not the tail shaft. Probably would've hooked the road and sent that truck rolling like a pepsi can in the wind
