maybe im thinkin of the wrong thing, but i thought those needed good oil pressure in order to inject fuel. buddy had a 7.3 that would start to run like chit when the oil got just a touch low.

The 7.3idi was an indirect injection diesel. Ford/IH-Navistar thing, pre "Powerstroke" days.
The newer 7.3 powerstroke used an hpop system, High pressure oil pump, to fire the injectors.

No.

Probably?

Not a bad idea. At least the transmission might last more than an hour.

Good idea Ed. Thank you.
Highly recommend getting the glow plugs working.
When it says wait to start, thats not a suggestion.
Cold blooded weak mfers, but VERY hard to kill.
Go with Eds advice and make damn sure the starter circuit and all grounds are good.
Ive had family and neighbors that ran those, and the ONLY problems they had with them were the above mentioned ones.

Randy, if you still have trouble getting it to crank decent after going through the ground & power cables like Ed suggested, don’t hesitate to have your starter rebuilt or get a replacement. When I was in college I worked for a seed farm that had several old Ford diesels…a couple 6.9’s and some 7.3’s. One day I had to replace the starter in one, and it cranked over much faster…ended up getting asked to do all of them before the summer was over.

Mechanical injection. Don't care if if even has oil in it.

Exhaust clear?

I think. LOL

“Yeah, here I am sitting on this bar stool,
Talking like a damn fool
Got the twelve o'clock Ford blues
And I've given up hope on the diesel forum soaps
And a bottle of cold brew
Is it any wonder I'm not crazy…

I’ve got too many Fords on my hands and it’s ticking away,
ticking away from me…”
