I have a cousin, whos more like an uncle.
Hes an agricultural engineer.
If I had it to do over, thats probably what I wouldve done.
He did parks, lakes, etc.
Always out stomping around in the bushes surveying and planning places.
He did all the engineering for Sandy Creek Park, lake, and nature center near Athens. Other places too.
Hes retired at 82, but still does some survey work from time to time.
My dad is civil, mom is actually a civil engineer too but she doesn't do it anymore. My grandfather was a mining engineer but he wound up doing mechanical. He worked for a millwright company that made replacement parts for machinery in the steel mills. At the time, most of the hot strip mills in the US were made by Mesta Machinery until the Japanese more or less built a better, cheaper mousetrap and ran them out of business. Most of Mesta's mills were custom-built for the plants they were put into and when Mesta went out of business, replacement parts became NLA so his company would re-engineer and manufacture one-off replacement parts to service them. I believe a lot of Mesta equipment is still in use to this day.
I always thought that was a cool job.
