Not a fan of the twin beam stuff either.
1979 was the last year of the solid front axle in the 1/2 tons.
The 3/4 tons and up still had solid axles last time I checked though.

F150 is still the best selling vehicle in the world, even if most purists agree that older designs were better suited to their purposes.

My 83 F350 is a twin I beam....or were y'all talking 4x4s?

4wd's post 79 other than the F350 had a solid axle.
The half tons wouldn't hold up snow plows any longer without helper air bags in the coils.
Dodges still had the Dana straight axle and were much tougher and they upped the use of galvanized sheet metal lasted the best combined with a 318 that could go 300 thousand miles. There's still a few around here still pushing snow.

I haven't seen a GMT800 Silverado that still had rocker panels since they stopped making them in 2007.

3/4 tons too, finally went away with the advent of the Super Duty.
Maybe that was what I was thinking of.
I just know that we got half a million miles with the late 90s Ford diesels and not much work if any to the drivetrains.
The 7.3 diesels may not have been dragsters off the line, but they would pull whatever you wanted, at 100 mph if you wanted to, and they still got 18-20 mpg doing it.
Work trucks here, not your play toy.

Evening boys.
Despite being borderline rough, the boy had a great day. Landed his best fish so far, 62cm at 4.4kg (24 inch at 9 3/4 lbs?).
Followed up with two very similar at 4 kg. ( I may have hooked and handed the first two, but number 3 was all him).
Handled them like a seasoned pro, which I guess he kinda is, even at ten y.o.
I was left with a deflating but respectable 58cm at 3.6 kg.
Landed a couple of smaller ones too, but returned what we could as an offering to Tangaroa, god of the sea.

Doyle found the title for the old truck.

He bought it in May of 86, put about 1000 miles on it hauling pallet length logs on it out of a hole that he was turning into a pond. Tore a brake line off of it, and parked it. It's been in the same spot for 32 years. When Bubba first talked to Doyle about getting the truck from him, he said he figured it had been sitting there for about ten years. LOL

That is a fantastic "find".

Big word Dallas. :)
