Whats cool though is on ar500 .17hmr will leave a little divot and .308 won't. .204 might leave a little mark as well
Ive seen what you are describing. I've not shot steel with my 204. Eggs only after load development. Save that ammo. I use my ar, my hornet, 22 lr. 7.62x39. The hornet leave a mark at 200

My buddy accidentally used a few rounds of the gren tip 556. That eats away the steel. Thankfully it was only 3 per plate. Also it can start a fire. Luckily we were wet. My range runs through pine trees.

I've been eyeballing those. 17 hornets the last yr or two. It's definitely made my list

I was 10 yrs old and killed a doe back in ‘77 with a Sheridan 5mm pump pellet gun...busted her right through the base of her ears.
Those were high end back then. My neighbors rich daddy bought him one. Used it for trapping and vermon. Crossman 760's were common and cheaply built. They always blew seals and broke pins.

I guess we have a couple 1000 yard ranged in MI now. I'll go check that out if I build a 6 dasher. Well, when.
I'd like to eventually go 500 yds+ but past 500yds important variables start to come into play which i have no experience in. I probably would go through a long range shooting course first
